National School Counseling Week 2020
What is your favorite quote and why?
The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education. MLK Jr.
This is my favorite quote because I am product and advocate for the experience of learning is a on-going journey that starts in childhood and continues into adulthood. The function of school is to educate on all aspects of children; intellectual, skills, competencies, attitudes, habits and socio-emotional needs. The impact of my educational experiences has been instrumental in my growth, career choice and passion to choose this job as a educator.
What are the most rewarding parts of your job?
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?” One of the most rewarding parts of my job is the direct impact and relationships I have with my students and parents on a daily basis. As an educator, the decision to help one of my students on a daily basis is the most rewarding part of my job as a counselor. Though there are various educational or socio-emotional needs and challenges, to be a guide to help teach my students how to overcome those challenges is the greatest joy as a counselor. Helping to equip them with the necessary skills, attributes and mindset to succeed in school and life is another rewarding part of my job. Lastly, the professional relationships I have with my mentors, colleagues and my administrative team has lead me on a path of success by enlarging my capacity to be a great counselor and educator.
